Ohio Special Response Team Delivers Search Training to Northeastern Ohio SWAT

Mansfield, Ohio - Ohio Special Response Search & Rescue Team (OSRT) delivered a day-long training event to the Northeastern Ohio Metro SWAT group. The training involved delivery of a detailed step by step description of multiple search scenarios conducted by OSRT search practitioners. SWAT members were introduced to the phases of a search, from initial notification to the deployment of specialized search teams as well as the benefits of utilizing Lost Person Behavior Analysis to more effectively prepare for a search. The group was also provided with a range of critical incident "lessons learned" by OSRT personnel who have walked the walk of a wide range of search types and environments.

The second half of the day involved the Metro SWAT members undergoing a live land navigation mini-course, demonstrating the necessity of maintaining highly focused situational awareness while navigating in order to not miss evidence of a subject's passage.

Finally, OSRT K-9 specialist Dale Thompson and his credentialed search dog, Katana, demonstrated how a qualified search K-9 can locate even the most minute trace of human remains in Liberty Park in Twinsburg, Ohio.
